欢迎各位爱乐人来到中国使馆，共享音乐盛宴。爱因斯坦曾说，如果不做物理学家，他可能成为一名音乐家。很荣幸出任“获奖者经典圈”荣誉主席，向音乐界迈出了一小步。今年是华盛顿国际钢琴艺术理事会成立25周年，我要向理事会致以热烈祝贺，向即将带来精彩演出的音乐家表示衷心感谢！

Welcome to the Chinese Embassy for a feast of music!Dr. Albert Einstein once said, “If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician.” It is my great honor to be the Honorary Chair and Patron Ambassador of the WIPAC Winners’ Classic Circle, thus taking another step into the wonderful world of music. As the Washington International Piano Arts Council celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, let me extend my warm congratulations to the Council, and also my heartfelt gratitude to the musicians who will bring us a fabulous performance today!

音乐是民心相通的桥梁，用音符跨越国界、超越分歧。半个多世纪前，费城交响乐团“带着两亿美国人民的友谊”率先访华，小泽征尔领衔波士顿交响乐团同中国艺术家同台演奏，“音乐外交”冲破冷战阴霾，为中美建交发挥了积极作用。尼克松总统“破冰之旅”之际，《美丽的阿美利加》在人民大会堂响起；为欢迎邓小平访美，100名美国儿童用中文齐唱《我爱北京天安门》，至今余音绕梁。今天,茱莉亚、柯蒂斯等知名音乐学府在两国传播艺术和友谊，郎朗、王羽佳等钢琴家登上世界音乐舞台，百老汇音乐剧在中国演出场场爆满，中国芭蕾舞剧《过年》、舞蹈诗剧《只此青绿》在美掀起热潮。音乐架起沟通理解的桥梁，拉近人民心灵的距离，再次证明政治逆风挡不住人民友好，差异分歧不应成为中美关系的障碍。

Music is a bridge that connects hearts across borders and differences.Over half a century ago, the Philadelphia Orchestra became the first American orchestra to visit China, taking with it “the friendship of 200 million American people”. In 1979, under the baton of Conductor Seiji Ozawa, musicians from the Boston Symphony Orchestra and China co-presented an amazing concert. Breaking through the gloom of the Cold War, “music diplomacy” played a positive role in the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. During President Richard Nixon’s ice-breaking visit to China in 1972, the melody America The Beautiful resounded across the Great Hall of the People. To welcome Mr. Deng Xiaoping visiting the U.S. in 1979, 100 American children sang in Chinese the song I Love Beijing Tiananmen, a story still fondly remembered now.

Today, prestigiousconservatories like Juilliard and Curtis are cultivating art and goodwill between our two countries. Pianists such as Lang Lang and Yuja Wang have taken the global stage. Broadway musicals drew full houses in China, while the Chinese ballet Chinese New Year and dance drama A Tapestry of a Legendary Land were warmly received here in the U.S. Music, as a bridge for dialogue and mutual understanding, has brought our two peoples closer to each other. This has again proven that the headwinds of politics cannot hold back our people from reaching out to each other, and differences should not be an obstacle to our bilateral relations.

音乐是文明互鉴的结晶，用交响寻找共鸣、美美与共。宫廷雅乐、异域丝竹、民间俗曲共同造就了中国音乐的绚烂多彩。“乐器之王”钢琴与中国传统音乐相辅相成，让《彩云追月》等名曲焕发新生，《百鸟朝凤》等民乐更添意蕴。克莱斯勒创作《中国花鼓》，肯尼·基将《茉莉花》改编成萨克斯曲，中国雅乐为世界音乐百花园增添亮色。习近平主席提出全球文明倡议，重视文明传承和创新，加强国际人文交流合作。去年中国文化产业营收规模再创历史新高，音乐厅、歌剧院如雨后春笋般发展到近千个、交响乐团增至80余家，4000多万中国青少年学习钢琴，中美音乐交流合作潜力巨大。中方愿与各国一道，推动不同文明包容共存、交流互鉴，开创世界各国人文交流、文化交融的新局面。

Musicepitomizes mutual learning and harmonious coexistence among different civilizations.In China, elegant imperial court music, exotic melodies and lively folk tunes come together in perfect harmony, giving our music its unique charm. In the recent decades, the magic chemistry between piano, “the king of instruments”, and traditional Chinese music has injected new life into famous Chinese tunes such as “Colorful Clouds Chasing the Moon” and “A Hundred Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix”. Fritz Kreisler composed the piece “Tambourin Chinois”, and Kenny G adapted “Jasmine Flower” for saxophone, showcasing China’s contribution to world music.

The Global Civilization Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping highlights the importance of inheritance and innovation of civilizations and calls for greater international people-to-people exchanges and cooperation. The revenue of China’s cultural industry last year hit a new record high. Concert halls and opera houses in China have mushroomed, totaling nearly 1,000. The number of orchestras has exceeded 80. More than 40 million Chinese teenagers are learning piano. All these mean huge potential for music exchanges and cooperation between China and the U.S. China is ready to work with all to promote inclusiveness, coexistence, exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations, and break new ground in people-to-people exchanges and cultural integration among countries.

音乐是团结向善的力量，用旋律歌颂和平、传递希望。追求真善美是艺术的永恒价值。大家即将欣赏的钢琴协奏曲《黄河》，是迄今中国最重要、在世界上传播最广的钢琴作品，因为它以气势磅礴的旋律，歌颂了中华民族在反法西斯战争中的英勇无畏，鼓舞着中华儿女团结一心、勇毅前行，焕发出历久弥新的精神力量。80年前，在世界反法西斯战争这场关乎人类命运的正义战争中，中美两国人民同仇敌忾、并肩作战，用血与火铸就深厚友谊，携手捍卫人类和平。上个月，中美1000多名青少年参加“鼓岭缘”中美青少年合唱周，共同歌唱和平；全球3000多名代表齐聚世界青年和平大会，发出和平倡议。和平是全世界人民的共同追求，呼唤更多和平理念的倡导者、和平发展的行动者、和平友好的促进者。

Music unites people for the good, celebrates peace and conveys hope.Art is an eternal quest for the true, the good and the beautiful. Today, we will hear “The Yellow River” Piano Concerto, which is China’s most famous and most widely spread piano piece. With passionate and powerful melodies, the timeless piece is an ode to the Chinese nation fighting fearlessly against fascism, inspiring sons and daughters of China to forge ahead in unity.

Eight decades ago, in the World Anti-Fascist War, a war of justice bearing on the future of humanity, the people of China and the U.S. foughtside by side, forged a profound friendship amid the trials of blood and fire, and jointly safeguarded world peace. Last month, over 1,000 young Chinese and Americans sang together for peace during the “Bond with Kuliang: 2025 China-U.S. Youth Choir Festival”. More than 3,000 representatives from across the world gathered at the World Youth Conference for Peace in Beijing, and jointly issued an initiative for peace. Peace is a common pursuit of people around the globe. May there be more advocates of the vision of peace, champions of peaceful development, and promoters of peace and friendship.

Dear friends,

面对变乱交织的国际形势，世界各国比以往任何时候都更需要团结合作，以宽广胸襟超越隔阂冲突，以博大情怀关照人类命运。作为世界前两大经济体和联合国安理会常任理事国,中美责无旁贷，应该本着对历史、对人民、对世界负责的态度，共同为世界和平担当、为团结友好尽力。中美和平共处是理所应当，平等尊重是交往前提，对话合作是唯一正解。正如两个优秀的乐团合作，需要指挥家把控正确的节奏力度，也需要所有的演奏者相互配合、协调一致。今年以来，习近平主席同特朗普总统两次通话，就改善和发展中美关系达成重要共识。我们要以两国元首通话共识为指挥棒，以相互尊重、和平共处、合作共赢为主旋律，共同演绎两个大国正确相处的时代交响。

In this changing and turbulent world, it is more important than ever for countries to work together in solidarity, transcend estrangement and conflict with an open mind, and shape human future with foresight. As the world’s two largest economies and permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and the U.S. share a special obligation, and should live up to our mission of upholding peace, solidarity and amity, so to be responsible for history, for the people and for the world.

Peaceful coexistence should be our natural choice, equality and mutual respect are the premise for our engagement, and dialogue and cooperation are our only right option. When two world-class orchestras perform together, the conductor needs to set the tempo and shape the dynamics, and all the musicians need to work closely to ensure cohesion. This is also true in China-U.S. relations. Since the start of this year, President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump spoke twice on the phone, and reached important consensus on improving and developing bilateral relations. We need to follow the baton of the consensus reached between the two leaders during their calls, focus on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation as theleitmotif, and find the right way to get along with each other so as to jointly perform a symphony of the era.

中美人民都爱家庭、爱音乐、爱和平，完全可以成为好朋友、好伙伴。中国欢迎包括美国朋友在内的各国朋友来领略美丽、开放、真实的中国，已对75个国家实行单方面免签或全面互免签证，240小时免签“朋友圈”扩容至55国，“中国游”“中国购”热度高涨。欢迎华盛顿国际钢琴艺术理事会到中国走走看看，以琴会友，以乐为媒，奏响更多动人的中美友谊乐章。

Both the Chinese and American people love family, music and peace. We have every reason to become good friends and partners. China welcomes people from the U.S. and all around the world to explore a beautiful, open and real China. We now offer unilateral and mutual visa exemptions to 75 countries, and have expanded the 240-hour visa-free transit policy to 55 nations including the U.S.“China travel” and “China shopping” are booming. I would like to encourage friends from WIPAC to visit China in the future, and write new chapters of China-U.S. friendship with piano and music as a bridge.
