China imported over 60b kg of grain last year, according to Chen Xiwen, deputy director of the central rural work office. Figures released by the General Administration of Customs in July showed that the country imported nearly 41b kg of grain in the first half of this year, up 41.2% over the same period last year.

Seven Chinese Navy warships Tuesday sailed toward the Diaoyu Islands, Kyodo News reported, citing the Japanese Defense Ministry. The ships including destroyers and frigates (护卫舰) were spotted sailing from the Pacific Ocean to the East China Sea at around 7 am. It is the first time that Japan has confirmed large-scale movements by the Chinese military, since it announced the “purchase” of China’s Diaoyu Islands. Japan’s government is closely monitoring the situation.

The guidelines provide step-wise standards for preschool children for their development in health, language, socialization, science and art to prevent them being “primary educated”. According to the guidelines, children should learn to refuse being led away by any stranger at the age of 3, understand parents’ sufferings at 4, know their home address clearly at 5 and accept dissenting viewpoints at 6.

Sales of new homes in 54 major cities last week have almost recovered to the level before the National Holiday. New home sales in those 54 cities from Oct 8 to Oct 14 totaled 59,929 units, up 210% from the Golden Week, statistics from the Cetaline Property showed. Given the long-term curbing and stability-oriented policies toward the property market, the overall home prices and sales within the year will remain stable, according to Gu Yunchang, deputy head of the China Real Estate and Housing Research Association.

Comments say people latch on to “Gangnam Style” because of preconceived stereotypes of Asians: Psy is the funny Asian guy who’s doing the funny dance in the funny song.

Bald men are perceived to be more dominant, more athletic and better leaders, researchers have claimed, CBC News reported. A new study from information management lecturer Albert Mannes at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business suggests that while men with male-pattern baldness tend to view themselves as having poor self-esteem, those who take the pre-emptive step of shaving a thinning head of hair improved their image. However, there were downsides. Men with shaved heads were rated lower in attractiveness and also seen as being older.
