China, Hungary lift ties to all-weather Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

China and Hungary have decided to elevate bilateral relations to an all-weather Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the new era.

The decision was announced during the talks between visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

When meeting the press, President Xi called on both sides to take the establishment of the partnership as an opportunity to inject new and strong impetus into bilateral cooperation.

During the talks, the Chinese president called for joint efforts to promote orderly cooperation in fields including infrastructure and green energy, and actively expand cooperation in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence.

Orban said his country does not identify with the rhetoric of so-called "overcapacity" or "de-risking."

Hungary is the last leg of President Xi's three-nation European tour after state visits in France and Serbia.

He has also met with Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok and attended a welcome ceremony jointly held by the Hungarian president and the prime minister.


China, Hungary ready to promote railway cooperation, connectivity

China and Hungary have agreed to strengthen railway cooperation and promote infrastructure connectivity.

The agreements are part of a joint statement on the establishment of their all-weather Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the new era.

Both sides will promote the construction of the Hungarian section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway, and high-level connectivity in Central and Eastern Europe.


Peng Liyuan visits Buda Castle, Hungarian-Chinese bilingual school

Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping, has visited the Buda Castle in Budapest.

Accompanied by the Hungarian president's wife Zsuzsanna Nagy, she viewed the exhibition of local porcelain and traditional embroidery craftsmanship.

Peng expressed the hope that Chinese and Hungarian artists strengthen exchanges and promote cultural integration.

She also called for stronger cooperation in the protection and restoration of cultural relics.

Peng Liyuan also visited the Hungarian-Chinese bilingual school, where she encouraged students there to study hard and contribute to the China-Hungary friendship.


3 Chinese items inscribed on UNESCO Memory of the World regional register

Three Chinese items have been listed on the Asia Pacific regional register of UNESCO's Memory of the World Programme.

The decision was recently approved at a general meeting in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar.

They are teahouse archives in Chengdu, genealogical records of Huizhou and printing blocks housed at the Dege Sutra Printing House in Sichuan.

To date, China has a total of 17 items inscribed on the register.

Israeli forces continue to bomb several areas of Rafah despite stern warnings from the White House.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed U.S. President Joe Biden's recent threat to withhold weapons from Israel if it attacks the southern Gaza city.

The military also hit back, saying it has enough supplies for planned operations.

Meantime, a senior Israeli official has confirmed the conclusion of the latest round of indirect ceasefire negotiations in Cairo.

Israel and Hamas have been trading blame over the impasse that has repeatedly dashed hopes of a respite in the seven-month long conflict.


Polish PM admits NATO presence in Ukraine

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has admitted that a small number of NATO soldiers are present in Ukraine.

Tusk divulged this while answering a question following a parliamentary meeting.

But he did not provide information on the number of troops or their places of origin, and stressed that NATO's direct engagement in the conflict must be avoided.

The Kremlin has yet to respond.


Haiti sees highest number of malnourished children

Authorities say Haiti is now home to the highest number of malnourished children the country has ever seen.

According to non-government organization Save the Children, 82,000 children are facing acute malnourishment in the capital alone amid continued gang violence.

It has also received reports that some children and adolescents have resorted to violence and prostitution to get food.

Meantime, the UN food agency says four million people in the country are suffering acute food insecurity, with one million of them just one step away from famine.
