Nature of China-U.S. economic, trade relations mutually beneficial: spokesperson

A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce says that China-U.S. economic and trade relations are mutually beneficial in nature.

The spokesperson called on China and the United States to address each other's legitimate concerns through dialogue and consultation on the basis of mutual respect and equality. 

The remarks came after U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai said she expects to meet Chinese trade officials in the near term.

A patient at a hospital in Lu'an, Anhui Province tested positive for the new coronavirus during a routine nucleic acid test.

The local government has carried out sample review, tracing, expert consultation and evaluation. 

All emergency measures are in place.

A baby was born in Spain with COVID-19 antibodies, providing scientists a chance to study how children can be better protected.

Biden urges kids 12 and above to get vaccinated

US President Joe Biden is urging all kids aged 12 and older to get Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine. 

"Teenagers could spread it to their friends, to their siblings, to their parents and to the grandparents. Now, that vaccine is authorized for ages 12 and up, and I encourage their parents to make sure they get the shot."

The director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tweeted that the CDC recommends the Pfizer vaccine for 12 to 15-year-old adolescents.

The Food and Drug Administration authorized its use for those as young as 12 earlier this week.


War criminal Karadzic to serve life sentence for genocide in UK prison

Former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic will be serving his life sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity in a UK prison. 

The 75-year-old was found guilty by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia of war crimes for the 1995 massacre at Srebrenica, in which up to 8,000 Muslim men and boys were murdered. 

Karadzic is currently held in The Hague where he was tried. 

A date for his transfer has yet to be set.


Blinken stresses de-escalation in call with Abbas

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has called for de-escalating tensions in a phone conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The two sides discussed the violence in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza.

The top U.S. diplomat believed that Palestinians and Israelis "deserve equal measures of freedom, dignity, security and prosperity".

On the same day, Blinken talked with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, voicing support for Israel's right to defend itself and urging all parties to de-escalate tensions and bring a halt to the violence.

Since Monday, hundreds of rockets have been fired at southern and central Israel while Israel has carried out deadly airstrikes throughout Gaza.


China inaugurates national administration of disease prevention and control

China has inaugurated a new national administration of disease prevention and control.

The administration's major functions include formulating policies for the prevention and control of infectious diseases.

Officials say the establishment signals an expansion of the roles of disease prevention and control agencies from preventing and containing diseases to comprehensively safeguarding and promoting the health of the entire population.


Ellen DeGeneres to end talk show after 19 years

A report by the Hollywood Reporter says that Ellen DeGeneres will end her Emmy-winning talk show after 19 years.

The daytime host decided that the upcoming season ending next year will be her last. 

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" debuted in 2003 and has won more than 60 Emmy awards. 

"Does it make me happy? Of course, look at all this. It makes me very happy. It makes people happy, I like making people happy, that's, you know, really important to me."

Last year, three top producers exited the show and DeGeneres apologized after reports of a toxic work environment.
